Texas WIC Clients Receive Upgraded EBT Cards for Enhanced Benefits Management
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has introduced new EBT cards for clients of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). This upgrade aims to simplify the management of benefits for Texas families.
Key features of the upgraded WIC card include integration with the myWIC app, which allows clients to track their benefits and purchases in real time. Clients can add their WIC benefits remotely, enhancing convenience. For added security, the myWIC app also offers the option to freeze and unfreeze benefits as needed.
HHS Executive Commissioner Stephanie Muth emphasized the importance of these enhancements, stating, “We want Texas families to feel supported every time they use WIC. These upgrades make it easier for families to see their benefits, plan their shopping, and feel confident they are getting the nutritious foods they need.”
The new WIC cards were distributed during clients’ scheduled appointments, and usage is effective starting July 1. To activate their cards, clients must create a PIN either within the myWIC app or by calling the Texas WIC Card Management Line at 833-966-1382.
Through the WIC program, eligible Texas families can access essential nutrition support, receiving benefits for fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, and cheese. Additionally, WIC provides free classes on breastfeeding, healthy eating, and personalized nutrition counseling.
Texas women can apply for WIC as soon as they confirm their pregnancy, and guardians of children under the age of 5—including dads, foster parents, and grandparents—are also eligible to apply.
Currently, the HHSC WIC program serves over 760,000 women, infants, and children monthly. To learn more or apply for WIC benefits, visit TexasWIC.org or call 800-942-3678.
