California National Guard and Service Corps Support Food Bank Operations
Today, the California Military Department has mobilized to support food bank operations in Los Angeles. Major General Matthew P. Beevers stated, “We are grateful to play a crucial role in this effort and honored to serve our communities once again.” This initiative involves collaboration with interagency partners including Cal OES, CDSS, and Cal Volunteers, aiming to address food insecurity in the region.
Governor Gavin Newsom has formally deployed the California National Guard and the California Service Corps for this humanitarian mission. GO-SERVE Director and California Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday highlighted the urgency of the mission, noting, “At a time when DC is shut down, we are stepping up.” This coordinated effort seeks to ensure that Californian families and children have access to vital food resources during critical times.
Residents in need of assistance can reach out to local food banks and community resources to access support. This initiative underscores California’s commitment to protecting the wellbeing of its residents, especially vulnerable populations facing food insecurity.
