Governor Abbott and HHSC Extend SNAP Replacement Benefits for Storm-Affected Bexar County Residents

SNAP Replacement Benefits Available for Bexar County Residents

Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received federal approval to extend the deadline for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients in Bexar County to apply for replacement benefits. This extension comes in the wake of recent severe weather and flooding that has impacted many families.

SNAP beneficiaries in Bexar County now have until September 17, 2026, to apply for assistance in replacing food lost or destroyed due to the storms. Replacement funds should be credited to Lone Star Cards within two business days of submitting a request.

“As families across Texas recover from recent severe weather and flooding, it is critical that they have the support they need to rebuild,” said Governor Abbott. This extension reflects the state’s commitment to providing essential resources to those affected by the disaster.

How to Apply for Replacement Benefits

SNAP recipients can take the following steps to request food replacement benefits:

  • Call 2-1-1 and, after selecting a language, choose option 7.
  • Visit a local HHSC office. To find an office, go to YourTexasBenefits.com and click “Find an Office” at the bottom of the page.

In a related note, clients of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) can also apply for replacement benefits if food purchased with September WIC benefits was lost due to storm damage or power outages. WIC clients should reach out to their WIC office before September 30, 2026, to request any needed replacement benefits, which can be done by locating their local WIC office at TexasWIC.org.
