Upgraded EBT Cards Launch for Texas WIC Clients
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has launched upgraded Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards aimed at enhancing convenience for clients in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This initiative is designed to support Texas families in managing their nutritional benefits more effectively.
This upgrade introduces integration with the revamped myWIC app, enabling clients to track their benefits and purchases in real time. Notably, WIC benefits can now be added remotely, and users can freeze and unfreeze their benefits through the myWIC app, ensuring enhanced security and ease of management.
“We want Texas families to feel supported every time they use WIC,” said HHS Executive Commissioner Stephanie Muth. “These upgrades make it easier for families to see their benefits, plan their shopping, and feel confident they are getting the nutritious foods they need.”
The new cards were distributed at clients’ scheduled appointments, with usage commencing on July 1. To use their cards, clients must create a Personal Identification Number (PIN) via the myWIC app or by contacting the Texas WIC Card Management Line at 833-966-1382.
Texas WIC clients can access a variety of essential food items, including fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, cheese, and other nutritious foods to help fulfill their families’ dietary needs. The program also offers educational resources such as free classes on breastfeeding and healthy eating, along with personalized nutrition counseling.
Women can apply for WIC as soon as they confirm their pregnancy, and applications are open to anyone with children under 5 years old, including fathers, foster parents, guardians, and grandparents. The Texas WIC program currently serves over 760,000 women, infants, and children each month.
