Superior Grocers Accepts EBT SNAP Payments for Online Orders via Instacart
Santa Fe Springs, California-based Superior Grocers will now accept Electronic Benefits Transfer Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program (EBT SNAP) for same-day delivery and pickup through Instacart. This initiative aims to enhance access to fresh food and pantry staples for EBT SNAP participants from Superior Grocers’ 47 locations across the state.
The approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service allows Superior Grocers to facilitate online EBT SNAP payments, addressing transportation barriers that often prevent customers from reaching grocery stores. Dale Nakata, Vice President of Marketing at Superior Grocers, emphasized the importance of this service, stating that it will significantly increase the accessibility of their products, which are known for quality, variety, and value.
EBT SNAP participants can now shop from Superior Grocers using the Instacart website and mobile app. After creating an Instacart customer profile, they can enter their EBT food card information as a form of payment. As per federal SNAP guidelines, a secondary form of payment will be necessary for any non-food items such as taxes, tips, and fees.
Customers can enter their zip code to confirm proximity to a participating retailer and start selecting eligible food items. They are also given the option to allocate their benefits for delivery or curbside pickup, with orders available as quickly as one hour or scheduled days in advance.
Since its inception in 1981, Superior Grocers has grown into one of Southern California’s largest independently-owned grocery chains, employing nearly 4,500 associates. The company’s non-profit arm, Superior Foundation, has contributed over $3 million to local schools and youth programs over the past 20 years, further enhancing community engagement.
